Three years ago today my family and I were evacuated from our home, like 16,000 of my neighbours. 151 homes were lost. We were lucky no lives were. To the firefighters and the crews who came to help, thank you.
Every community in this riding lived through that day, and every community has been watching what comes after. Some communities have seen progress since then. Westwood Hills has its egress project underway. Haliburton Hills and Highland Park have gated egress in place.
Many of our other communities are still waiting.
Hammonds Plains Road needs the infrastructure work that has been talked about for years to move from planning to the ground. I carry that into every meeting with me and every conversation with our local councillors, and I will keep at it.
To everyone who lived this event and is still working to make sure we never live it again, thank you.
