The Association of Black Social Workers is proud to announce the official opening of the Black Mental Health Clinic.
This new clinic is a dedicated space for healing, culturally grounded care, and wellness, created to better support African Nova Scotians and people of African ancestry across the province. Services are delivered through the Africentric Clinical Specialization Cohort, ensuring care that is rooted in lived experience, cultural understanding, and community connection.
The clinic is now accepting clients from across Nova Scotia.
Who the clinic supports:
• African Nova Scotians
• People of African ancestry living in Nova Scotia
Services available:
• Up to 10 pro bono (free) counselling sessions
• Individual and group therapy
• Support for children, youth, adults, and seniors
• Services for individuals impacted by sexualized and gender-based violence
• Inclusive support for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members
Areas of care include:
• Anxiety and depression
• Racial stress and racial trauma
• Identity development and life transitions
• Grief and loss
• Trauma-informed care
• Culturally grounded healing approaches
The clinic is staffed by a roster of Black clinical specialists who are currently accepting new clients.
This initiative reflects a commitment to ensuring that members of the community have access to care that recognizes their experiences and meets them where they are.
