HALIFAX – Rick Burns, MLA for Hammonds Plains-Lucasville, is pleased to announce that Upper Hammonds Plains will receive a $142,808 grant through the Provincial Capital Assistance Program to support critical upgrades to the community’s water system and hydrants.
This funding is part of a broader provincial investment totaling over $2.5 million in 23 municipal infrastructure projects across Nova Scotia, aimed at improving water, sewer, flood risk, and innovation initiatives. The Provincial Capital Assistance Program budget has more than doubled this year, increasing from $690,000 to $1.69 million to better support priority infrastructure projects.
“This investment will deliver much-needed upgrades to the water system in Upper Hammonds Plains, a key step in improving reliability, safety, and service for residents” said Burns. “Upgrading our water systems and improving fire protection infrastructure is essential for the safety and growth of Upper Hammonds Plains. I will continue to work with our municipal and provincial partners to ensure these improvements benefit our community.”
The Provincial Capital Assistance Program covers up to 50 per cent of eligible project costs, helping municipalities complete essential water and wastewater assessments, stormwater upgrades, and water treatment improvements.
Since 2021, the Department of Municipal Affairs has committed over $508 million toward building vibrant communities, including support for housing development, climate resilience, transit, and recreation projects.
