Volunteers are the backbone of our communities, and now is the time to recognize those who go above and beyond.

Nominations are officially open for the 2026 Provincial Volunteer Awards, celebrating the individuals, families, and groups who make a meaningful difference across Nova Scotia.

There are four award categories:
• Newcomer Volunteer Award – recognizing a newcomer making an outstanding impact in their community
• Youth Volunteer Award – for volunteers aged 13 to 24
• Family Volunteer Award – for families giving back together
• Nova Scotia Strong Award – honouring resilience during times of hardship or tragedy

Award recipients will be recognized at the 52nd annual Provincial Volunteer Awards ceremony in Halifax on September 28, alongside representatives from communities across the province.

With more than 410,000 Nova Scotians volunteering nearly 79 million hours each year, it’s clear that giving back is a defining part of who we are.

Nominations are open until May 29. If you know someone who makes a difference, I encourage you to put their name forward.

During National Volunteer Week, April 19 to 25, it’s a great opportunity to celebrate the people who help make our communities stronger every day.
