I had the special honour of presenting a United Nations Peacekeeper Certificate of Recognition to one of our own community members, @Bruce Barteaux, this morning at the Lucasville Community Association Seniors’ Coffee.

Many of you probably recognize Bruce. He is usually out for a run, in all weather through Lucasville and Hammonds Plains with his wife, Bonnie, right there beside him on her bicycle.

But long before they moved to Lucasville, Bruce was serving our country on a much larger stage. Today we recognized his 42 years of service as an Army officer, specifically his work as a UN Peacekeeper in Ethiopia and Eritrea back in 2000.

This certificate is part of a new provincial initiative to formally recognize Nova Scotians who have served in United Nations missions, contributing to peace and security around the world. It was a privilege to share his accomplishments and present this certificate to Bruce today. His service record speaks for itself and his recognition is well deserved.

Bruce, thank you for your incredible 42 years of service, your sacrifice, and for being such a dedicated part of our community here in Hammonds Plains and Lucasville!
