The Government of Nova Scotia is offering financial support to renters through the Canada-Nova Scotia Targeted Housing Benefit. If you pay a significant portion of your income on rent, you may be eligible for a monthly rent supplement to help make housing more affordable.
The rent supplement is available to Nova Scotians who spend 40% or more of their pre-tax household income on the average market rent in their area. The amount you receive is based on your household income, size, and actual rent paid (up to a maximum set by the program). You can apply at any time and, as long as you remain eligible, continue to receive the benefit with an annual renewal.
