This Red Tape Awareness Week is a reminder that outdated rules don’t just create frustration – they slow down housing and hospital construction, delay access to care, and discourage investment in the industries Nova Scotia depends on.
That’s why our government is focused on cutting unnecessary red tape and making government work faster and better for Nova Scotians.
We’ve cut mining permitting times by more than half, attracting projects that create good jobs and help Nova Scotia compete globally. We’ve improved half of the Province’s 300 permits so decisions are made faster, giving small businesses clarity instead of leaving them in limbo.
By removing barriers to housing development, 14,667 new homes are underway, with conditions in place for more than 54,000 additional units.
We’re also modernizing health care by expanding the role of pharmacists and nurse practitioners and launching the One Person, One Record system at the IWK – a major step toward reducing duplication and cutting hundreds of thousands of administrative hours for doctors.
Cutting red tape doesn’t mean cutting corners. It means removing what’s unnecessary so we can focus on what matters: building homes people can afford, supporting good jobs, and improving access to care.
As a result of this work, Nova Scotia is now tied for second in Canada for red tape reduction. This is about results – faster decisions, clearer rules, and a stronger, more resilient province.
