The Province is investing in new firefighter training equipment to ensure firefighters across Nova Scotia have access to safe, modern, and consistent training no matter where they live.

This investment includes two mobile burn units and four propane-fuelled training props, expanding hands-on training capacity across the province. Mobile burn units are portable, self-contained training trailers that allow firefighters to practise live-fire scenarios in a safe, controlled environment using propane-fuelled fires, smoke, and adjustable layouts that meet national safety standards. With these additions, Nova Scotia will now have three mobile burn units, helping firefighters train closer to home.

The new training props will safely simulate a range of real-world fire scenarios, including pressure-vessel fires and fires with multiple ignition points. This allows firefighters to practise essential skills such as hose use, shutting off fuel sources, cooling fires, and making critical decisions under pressure.

These investments come at an important time as work continues on a new long-term firefighter training program. They also build on the Province’s commitment to fire safety through the Fire Safety and Services Act, introduced in fall 2025, which focuses on improving fire safety and supporting the long-term stability of fire services in Nova Scotia.

Supporting firefighter safety means supporting the safety of our communities, and this investment is a meaningful step toward stronger, more consistent training across the province.
