I want to join the disability community and the many Nova Scotians whose lives he touched in remembering Gerry Post, a tireless champion for accessibility.
Gerry’s persistence, humour, and commitment to inclusion helped open doors across our province. As a member of the Bill 59 Alliance, he helped shape the Nova Scotia Accessibility Act, passed in 2017, and later served as the first executive director of the provincial Accessibility Directorate.
As Attorney General Scott Armstrong said:
“He never gave up on the idea that Nova Scotia could be a place where everyone belongs.”
That commitment continues to guide the work of breaking down barriers and ensuring every Nova Scotian can fully participate in community life.
Ellen Johnson, Chair of the Nova Scotia Accessibility Advisory Board, reflected on Gerry’s lasting influence:
“Gerry was a persistent force moving accessibility forward in our province and beyond. He inspired so many of us to see accessibility as a human right, not an extra.”
My thoughts are with Gerry’s family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew him as a mentor and champion. The most fitting tribute is to continue the work he started and build a more accessible Nova Scotia for everyone.
