Every community has people and organizations working to make Nova Scotia a more equitable, inclusive, and welcoming place. The Nova Scotia Human Rights Awards are an opportunity to recognize those individuals and groups whose work makes a meaningful difference.
Nominations are now open, and Nova Scotians are encouraged to nominate individuals or organizations whose work advances human rights in our province.
This year’s award categories include:
Youth (up to age 20) – recognizing young people who promote equity, inclusion and human rights.
Individual (age 21 and older) – recognizing leadership that advances equity, inclusion and human rights in the community.
Group/Organization – recognizing collective efforts that protect dignity, advance equity and promote inclusion.
Dr. Burnley Allan (Rocky) Jones Award – recognizing an individual of African descent whose work reflects his legacy of advancing racial equality, justice and socio-economic empowerment.
Wel’lukwen Award – recognizing an L’nu individual, group or organization advancing the rights of Mi’kmaw and Indigenous people and working toward a just, equitable and inclusive society.
Nominations are open until November 1.
The 2026 Nova Scotia Human Rights Awards will be presented in Halifax on December 10, International Human Rights Day.
