Moving It Forward. Making It Happen. Just the Facts.
There’s a lot happening across Nova Scotia, and I want to make sure residents have a clear picture of some of the latest updates and programs available to them.
Minimum wage is now $17/hour
As of October 1, Nova Scotia’s minimum wage increased to $17 per hour, following the increase to $16.75 in April. This puts more money into the pockets of workers while giving employers time to adapt.
Nearly $500,000 for community safety
Community organizations across Nova Scotia are receiving nearly $500,000 through the Civil Forfeiture and Crime Prevention Community Grant programs. The funding supports crime prevention, victim support, youth programming, mental health, addiction, recreation and community connection.
$30 million+ for Heating Assistance
HARP opened October 1, providing a $400 rebate to eligible households to help with heating costs this fall and winter. Eligibility includes families with net income up to $45,000 and single-person households up to $30,000, provided they pay directly for their heat.

Electric vehicle levy
Beginning October 1, fully electric passenger vehicles are subject to a $500 levy every two years when registration is renewed, while plug-in hybrids pay $250. This helps ensure roads and bridges continue to be maintained as more drivers transition away from gasoline vehicles. Emergency service and municipal vehicles are exempt.
I’ll continue sharing updates on programs, investments and projects that matter to residents here in Hammonds Plains-Lucasville.
